4 Gen Zzz :) ♥ Question: The Hunger Game…..did I like it?

This blog is for fun, in response to the endless chatter about The Hunger Game that quite a few Gen Zzzs who worship Justin Bieber has been posting all around and also to me.

Well thank you for the “share”, after 3 months of nagging, I finally broke down and saw the movie tonight.

So in answer to your lol. important quation (as if!): The Hunger Game, what did I think?

This is my Answer:

After much nagging by a bunch of Justin Bieber worshipping Gen Zzz for the last 3 months…I finally saw the Hunger game. Verdict: Spot on timing for the topic! Well done for that!

But personally I don’t need to identify with the figures played by Woody Harrelson & his team of PRs, I’ve lived that in real life AND I don’t need to stretch to far to understand the in-fighting of the Gen Z main characters…I’ve lived that the last year…the ONLY thing I didn’t enjoy was the Emo-whining of the Gen Z…they are like that! I get them….but they should learn that we don’t need to do Twilight Emo-sulking…..it is OKAY to just be like a good Cantonese Opera & spend 7mins mooning in suicide pact and 3hrs 53mins explaining the politics & the Media whoring!…..AND final note: Note enough bloodshed in True blood style! Soooo the Original Japanese Movie Battle Royale was still more enticing for me!

However 8/10 for PERFECT TIMING! ♥

Why do I say this? Because….

  • I like the way “cruelty” is presented in the movie. It is subtle.
  • I think the violence was very understated but that is because they still want to sell the movie to 12 yrs old. I think that is where the movie suffered. The original Japanese movie which I saw in full ages ago called Battle Royale that this movie is based on, had more guts and just presented the violence in a more realistic and genuine way. It did not try to gloss over it.
  • I think anyone who has ever dealt with the media, worked as a PR, know anything about Public Relations, ever been in the public limelight share the same cynicism about the spin  sponsors.
  • As an Artists and as someone who had to raise awareness for many worthwhile Charitable causes around the world, the way sponsors dealt with “the products” were pretty much a straightforward telling of “how it is”. I liked that.
  • Strategically, because I was watching it with someone who has a lot of expertise about military strategies, I can see that some of it was exaggerated if you really were playing that kind of staged “war game”. But as someone brought up in a world of Martial arts, I thought the way they handled the “non-violent” nature of the two main characters and their use of intelligence and what I would consider  both Taoist & Sun Tze Art of war & peace , chinese battle principles were really good!
  • I enjoyed the visual effects of the Black chariot set on fire and comparing the whole thing to a good old fashion Roman Gladiator fight.
  • I found the sappiness OTT and so did a few people in the audience. We just laughed because bits of it were so “Twilight” like.

***AND finally, there will be lots of comparisons about Conspiracy theory and New world order blah-blah in the media about this movie and all I can say to all of you is: HEY, IT IS a movie! Real life is much more nuances than that! People don’t behave like stereotypical characters….they have a wider range of response and emotions, so don’t turn this into yet other movie to live by e.g. like too many got too far into Natural Born Killer with Woody Harrelson (and in fact they deliberately caste him in the role of mentor to promote a certain kind of intertexuality with his 90s movies), the Da vinci Code (with all that sybolism of conspiracy) and finally with Twilight (so many trees, so few vampires glowing in the sun! 🙂 )……and even the Evangelical & rather dogmatic : V for Vendetta.

Remember a movie is a movie. Katniss Everdeen is just a typical Artemis archetype that has appeared in many many other movies of the genre, in books and plays etc. I know of a few Artemis archetype in real life, they grow up and develop different aspects of themselves …..I know of one phenomenal Australian Artemis type blogger who is now happily exploring motherhood for the first time. I was offered a gift from another amazing Artemis woman who offered to send me one of her leather painted horse riding stirrups as a gift. She has been exploring her artistic ability.

Finally from a truly Aphrodite archetype (yes, yours truly, me, Cecilia), I promise you that No one on this earth can make you  love someone your heart does not truly feel for. So while Katniss in the movie could “fake it” to transcend the stupidity of the situation she found herself, there is not a guy on this planet who does not know deep down when the girl he loves, does not love him the same way and has feelings for another…..

But even so, in real life, there is no “life and death” game involved, so quite frankly, if I was Katniss, I would just be honest and say: “hey, guys, I am between the age of 12-17, this is the time for me to “date”…People my own age (ie. not Woody Harrelson)…..this is not the time for me to go “Oh wow, you are IT for life because some external authority wanted to see the Perfect projections of their lost youths in me!”

Hey, you Gen Zzzzs teenagers wanted an honest answer from me and here it is!

Also, can I say this to you: It is perfectly normal that she comes across a lot of more competent than her male counterpart. But it is ridiculous for her home District to project their blah-blah onto the pair of them as a symbol and as an excuse for them to riot. If they want to rebell against an unfair system, let these Grown ups deal with it themselves! You don’t need to get all Emo about it on the adults behalf, it is their own problem!

Have fun with this but if you think this is some permission for Adults to riot or do what they think is justified, it is not. ALL the adults in that world co-created that world ! Notice all the districts were just quite happy to “sacrifice” their young in the movie! Don’t put up with the spin. THIS messy world you live in now….you did not create! Your parents did! Put the responsibility back on their selfish arses and don’t turn this into your life!

In the long run…history will teach you that unfortunately Teenagers who believe in Propagandas too much, end up stupid & illiterate. If you have any doubt, google “The cultural revolution in China”. I met people who were teenagers who bought into the whole stupid Chairman Mao thing when they grew up to be in their 50s. They thought they changed the world by burning books and killing teachers……all they did was made themselves so illiterate that they were not able to teach their own 10 yrs old how to read & write! 74% of China today over the age of 57 yrs old are like this!

So next time someone goes blah-blah to you about a Revolution and hey, riot……it is heroic like Katniss…..try to think about whether you want to BECOME The Hunger Game statistic? Remember the Statisitcs they read out in the beginning of the movie?

The Most boring thing you can become in this world is just another Statistic, just another Casualty…..

And no, You do not need to get people to Like you…….No one cares and no one will remember….but if you can figure out how to survive in the bush like Katniss and her pal, you have learnt a valuable life-skill AND btw. I loved the Bush survival classes I got in Australia growing up!

Lots of people looked at me when I was in my 20s and thought, “Oh, she is just another Asian princess chick who will be incompetent if you left her with Nature!” They were so very very Wrong….because when I was actually dropped in the Himalayan ranges and another time stuck in a tail-end of a Tornado in a large Sailboat…..ALL that Bush survival skills came into full force! I respected Nature. I worked with it. I did not try to tame it….but I also got taught to do the things that kept me alive & safe in adverse natural conditions.

So if you want to “get” something out of the Hunger Game…go and pester your  Punk Inbetweeners & early Gen X parents into sending you to Bush Survival camps, join the Guides, go for  short volunteer trip to build something in Africa or India or whatever……..

Learn to respect Nature (no, wikipedia it does not count and nor does freaking computer games, that sounds moronic!) and learn to live with Nature! You never know when you need the skill to know how to build a good fire (to cook or stay warm, not to burn down other people’s crap stuff! Get a life! Arson, unless for insurance fire is so pathetic ! JOKE!) ! I found that skill REALLY useful in some very odd situations!

Have fun! May the odds be ever in your favor!

      Dear Tere and Senakamura family.

Thank you for your link to your visual journalism.

I am glad you support the use of ebooks and dropping the waste of resources in out-dated libraries with disfunctional human resource policies wasting money that could be used to give more free books to the poor.

To start with try 42,000 free books in http://www.gutenberg.org/ and there are so many more in so many languages! I donated an entire library to remote village schools high up in the Himalayas by simply giving them 3 things:

      a) A Deluxe Edition CD of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.
      b) links to Gutenberg project so that teachers can download any of the 42K books to use as language tools in english, french and spanish…
      c) a link to the British Library online catalogue so that they can find whatever books they want in whatever form needed online!

So any government or council that claims they don’t have the money to provide up-to-date books in libraries are simply spending the money wasting it on pen-pushers instead of spending it delivering books where e-books are needed, except for top of the range research libraries with rare book for academic research like the British library, but that is a conservation issue.

      🙂 Rant over. love CC

Thank you EcoB,but if there was a non-drunkard version of Haymitch…and female….that would be me. 🙂 While I’m okay in nature with fire-building and making shelters…it is my big regret in life that I do not have the robustness of health to do direct grassroot e.g. it took me 5 days in a 3rd world soup kitchen to catch EVERY disease there…..but the 3 weeks I spent stuck in bed in the hotel meant I could “wheel and deal” and got people around the world to buy enough handicrafts made by the women rescued from Brothels in India to pay All their wages & their childrens education for the next 18months! 🙂 Isn’t that what Haymitch did for the useless Gen Zzzs in the book?

Without detracting from the seriousness of your not-for-profit, I hope it is okay for me to ask you: After seeing the carnage of Iraq, do you identify with the Haymitch character in the book who felt a total disgust towards the whole “hunger game” situation where young people are ritually killed for social control & entertainment? 😦 It would be great to get your point of view! well. thank you …hmm..”street fights”….but I really don’t condone violence because I really like Gandhi! 🙂 So I think you should spend less time watching stupid people punch up one another for no apparent reason and maybe read Book 3 and tell me what you think of the whole “boohoo, Haymitch is secretly a good guy, not a drunkard…bla-bla…”
Also you know this whole book series is based on old film classics like: Battle Royale, Highlanders, Blade Runner and Logan’s Run etc…and it uses a lot of reference to things like Spartacus, Ben Hur and some of the names are stolen from I.Claudius (the book). So check it out if you want to. Way more interesting than dum arse bus driver punching up a red neck! You can see that done better in Fight club…which I like but I prefer the movie Dogma.

P.S It is okay to tell me I am wrong if I am actually wrong! 🙂 I won’t like it, but it is okay….hahahaha.
