The trouble with many Mel Gibson’s films, is that he doesn’t seem to “get” the very thing he is trying too put on screen….so instead he focusses on some sentimentality that passes for Empathy….I am not convinced ….I can see why depiction of Mayan culture would spark controversy…the Bloke created too broad a generalisation …..and far too obsessed with gore as usual…nothing new….so it is either overkilled or under-represented…you can see why a simple fantasy film like Avatar though struck more of a genuine chord….and visually much more creative and stunning…it is hard to explain why it is not always the “Form” that matters…I think he was too literal. Nah!
Australia is grateful to Hollywood for keeping him so he can’t bother poor Aboriginal cultures with any more of his “signature”…where no matter what they are….Mayan, Jesus….whatever…it is ALL MAD MAX to him! lol. Zzzzz.
