How I became a Lancashire and Northwest Magazine #LancMag columnist!

June 2024: THIS is me looking smug after I finally finished the Lancaster based Magazine article so I only have ONE more paper to go….and have LOADS of time to do it‼ YAY‼‼‼‼ Publishing is not stressful for me, my first full article in my life went to 1.2million distribution in Features Daily. But I do struggle with Procrastination….and like Atkinson…it is best to set any deadlines to me 3 to 6 months ahead of when it is NEEDED or…72hrs before 🤣 After three decades of being published, I still don’t think of myself as a #writer or #author, why is that? Ive been a #visualartist since I was 2yrs old before I knew how to speak…so…I don’t know how to think of myself as anything else besides as an #Artist!?!?! #honesty Who needs a label anyway? Finishing the magazine article is such a relief, it is ONLY 2 weeks late. 😎😇

August 2024: Thank you Lancashire and Northwest Magazine for featuring my writing about Multidisciplinary Sustainability research as a female Economist, Nobel Physics talk by Laureate Kip Thorne in London, Cancer Research, STEM women in Academia and the modern state of 21stC British Feminism in the article titled,

“Women on a train…changing the rules one gig at a time!” by Dr. Cecilia W. Yu http://www.lancmag.com August issue.

It was a fun piece written in the style of The New Yorker. I loved 💚 the preview of the magazine with a mix of Modern and Historic activities in Lancashire county.

Of course, the best known writer from the county for me is Anthony Burgess who penned the dystopian Black Comedy novel which became an iconic British cult film, directed by Stanley Kubrick! ” A clockwork orange” remained one of my favorite #Oscar winning films! Lanc Mag shows the vibrancy of the county and demonstrates that the “living” Tangible and Intangible Cultural heritage of Lancashire and NW England is very much “Alive and Kicking” ! 💚😎🔥🔥

I am so grateful I met the editor, the talented and stylish Ms. Nathalie Christopher on a train from #Euston by accident because I lost my phone charger..???..somewhere in #Bloomsbury ?? 🤣 ..and had to borrow hers! #sisterhood

Okay, I return to NUJ as a Freelance, I cant deal with FULL Editorial and Investigative Journalist “stuff” right now…Im sorry…all that Green politics and European, Aussie & African Research stuff and other stuff with Fine Art is kind of OTT, right now. But thank you for all your support and endorsements of my writing style…with maddening typos, hashtags, sanskrit quotes and all….🤣🤣🤣

October 2024: So after a good catchup yesterday, I agreed to be an IRREGULAR “Columnist” for the Monthly Magazine Lancashire & North West Magazine ! 😎🤣💚🔥🔥

I supposed NOW is as good a time to announce it. Natalie and I had a very good catch up and we agreed that given how much we both enjoyed working on “Women on a train….” in the current August issue of #lancmag , we will keep the #injokes flowing….

Late Oct 2024: OMG! Is it “that time of the month again” lol….where my irregular “Regular” column is due and it is time for me to start “Sustainability, dante’s infernal…and women on a train…” by Dr. Cecilia W.Yu? 😂😎🤣Well, until I write it and #lancmag Lancashire and Northwest County Magazine prints it, here’s a glimpse of their wonderful November issue! Im not in it BUT I still 💚💚💚 so many things like Heathers, Disability support, clearly one of my mentor Sir John “influenced” Health Research Project at Lancaster University, Argentinian salad (yum!), Suzi Quatro interview, LGBTQ end modern slavery campaign, new books, Art exhibitions, how to spend time with your ponies and alpacas, what to wear while spending time with them (aka fashion and accessories), old fashion Beauty Queens and Green community space etc. etc. I 💚💚💚 it! It has all my favorite things, so I guess I better get writing !!! Soon-ish? 🤣 💚💚💚💚 So beautifully done and Creative!

November 2024: On a FUN & creative note for the weekend: I am writing my #Lancmag column after researching it for a few weeks.

I asked one of the Mini-mes (mentees), “Anything useful about Dante’s inferno?”

One of them Ctrl-C : “It gets 4.5 stars review BUT the in-game fighting routines are too repetitive, though most fans love the mythical, old world-lores with the ironic white-savior complex!”

Me: “No, No, what I’m talking about is OFF-grid …”

GA: “in audible?”

Me: “No…on some old parchments!”

….GA finds copy in the Smithsonians!

Bingo! We both learn something new today! 🤣🤣🤣

** Honestly I do not know why ANYONE thinks teaching is Hard, apart from losing your voice all the time and that is why I don’t want to do it! All you have to do is drop all your personal assumptions, ignore them A LOT unless they say something clever & interesting, and let everyone find their own answers…how hard it that? #toxicacademia = #morons!

December 2024: Mid UNFCCC #COP29 Baku #humour Yesterday I did the most unusual thing…because of my lingering flu, I decided to say,” Stuff it, I will just do the interview with a blocked nose ….even with the camera on!” THIS goes against EVERYTHING Ive been taught about Media and PR since the first time I ever stepped in front of a Camera in Kindergarten! 🤣 I don’t think it was my best magazine interview ever but it was lovely to catch up with a Kindred Spirit….and there is something to celebrate about doing an interview with an incredibly personable and genuine interviewer I already have a good rapport with and trust!

The interview was about: “My advise for young people in their Higher Education choices… “

My most humourous and self deprecating answer: “Obviously if you want to work with Sustainability for Real, don’t go to any University that has a permanent BP Lab or is famous for Rapechats and annual Nazi Conferences! Remember to google your choices first! Lol. 😂” Good Times!
