Restoring an old greek island house

At first it seemed like a great idea…all these gorgeous white washed houses…elegant…tranquil….grecian…

Helenic…Blah..blah…lol. No one thought that someone has to keep it white…

Physically …in the hot sun….white washing….

And as soon as you finish one end ….you have to start again because the climate wears down anything!!!

And this is how we ended up spending hours from dusk till dark white washing the last 2 weeks!!!

So think hard before you get a historic place…it is sooo much work!!

We are constantly learning how to balance appropriate modernising of the interior with the need to keep the traditional ambience of the exterior.

The point of greek style is to “keep it simple”…I talked to local artists, village elders, eco-architects and artist-architect who has his own greek restoration project about it…

……actually this constant “work in progress” led to a lot of really interesting input…

Because we wanted to do this slowly by our own hands…learning slowly …progress is very gradual given the limited time we have each year….

And finally…even if it is slow…hey check out the night sky when we complete the white washing each night…isn’t it incredible???? Wow!
